Adventures in Printmaking
I am a printmaker based in Camberwell, South London.
I trained as an Industrial Designer and came to printmaking almost by accident 10 years ago.
Printmaking is many things, a joy and a curse, a curious mixture of art and science. It can be dictated by technique, but also has tremendous freedom. It is surprising and serendipitous.
You have to master the metal the acid baths, the grounds, aquatint, varnishes and inks, the paper and the presses. It can be unpredictable and mysterious. Many of the processes originated in centuries ago and it is also absolutely up-to-the-minute.
Above all printmaking is its own thing, its own art form with wonderful properties and characteristics. Prints are made with blood sweat and tears! They can take hours, days, weeks of effort. Above all it’s an adventure of expression.
I work with a number of technigues - etching and aqautint, linoprint, drypont and also monoprint and more recently have experimented with screen printing and textile printing.
I like working on series of works. These include:
Tate Birches Series
London Trees Series
The Art of Commerce Series
Experimental Pattern based work
I am member of the highly respected and long established Artichoke Printmaking studio and regularly exhibit with them. In addition I do Open Studios at least twice a year. Studio visits are by appointment.
